Visual Studio 11 .NET Advances

by S.Somasegar via Somasegar's WebLog on 10/26/2011 10:00:00 PM

In my first post of this Visual Studio 11 series, I discussed some of the language-level innovation in the Visual Studio 11 Developer Preview.  In this second post, I’ll take a look at some of the improvements that have gone into the .NET Framework 4.5 Developer Preview. Languages enable developers to express their intentions for the behavior of their programs.  To be as productive as possible, however, developers rely on runtimes and libraries to encapsulate commonly needed fun ...

Making Asynchronous Programming Easy

by S.Somasegar via Somasegar's WebLog on 10/28/2010 6:30:00 PM

Writing applications that effectively handle long latencies can be a daunting challenge.  As software applications grow more complex, more developers are building software that accesses remote resources, performs longer computations, and processes large data sets.  Tasks we used to think of as being quick now may take orders of magnitude longer to complete or may never complete.  Without special care taken to manage conditions that may arise from these latencies, applications can ...
